middle of nowhere

When anyone asks where I live, I generally like to give the very true answer of, "the middle of nowhere."  I actually live in a "city," but it is not a city by any of my own definitions.  My definition includes (but is not limited to) museums, a lot more stores than just Walmart, and a movie theater that shows more than 4 movies at a time.  I know, I'm hard to please.  I've just never had to confront how much I need a Target in my life before I moved to the middle of nowhere.

But the bonus of living in the middle of nowhere is that it can be beautiful.  And we can see the stars at night.  And we can have seriously gorgeous views along side the road to get to somewhere.  Over the weekend we explored new roads to get to somewhere, and we took our time.  We got out at scenic overviews, farms with longhorn cattle, and we got out for sudden intense needs to go potty on the side of the road (Rowan, not me).  And we got out to look at the very big, full moon as she was on the rise.
Sometimes it pays to live in the middle of nowhere.  Sometimes.

  1. Gorgeous views, Ruthie!!! We live in a pretty small farm town too, but have a Target near by. It's the best of both worlds. But the views you've captured here----amazing!

    1. Thanks, Denise! I would be a happy camper to have these views AND a Target. Is that too much to ask?

  2. It looks beautiful! What you and I need are several homes...and a helicopter! Because I love the city too, and the country, and the ocean...

  3. That second to last one belongs in the Missouri Conservation calendar. Seriously, you should submit. We buy one every year. I like the middle of nowhere too... sometimes.

  4. Those are some really pretty scenes, Ruthie! I tip my hat to you for being able to make "home" wherever your family is. They are your home. And apparently that livestock, they're a part of it too. Beautiful pictures, I always feel like I'm RIGHT THERE when I see your outdoor shots. You are a camera wizardess!

  5. So pretty! And I empathize with your definition of a city-- we have a Target, but it isn't enough...sigh. But you are right, the views & natural beauty totally make up for it. Mostly.

    1. I do love the natural beauty, but the insects here are on steroids. I need a little more city in this nowhere!
