THE cake

My sweet uncle and aunt were visiting my parents at the same time as we were.  My uncle and Fletcher share a deep love of trains, so they were quite the pair.  My uncle and mom schemed to make Fletcher the most elaborate train cake I have ever seen.  It took them THREE days to make it from top to bottom.  It was elaborate, people.  And barely edible in the end, but that was not the point.  Fletcher loved it.  So much.  Almost as much as my uncle Fred and mom!
Rice krispy treats made up the road, kit kats made the track.  Ice cream cones made up the smoke stack, and malted milk balls made up the tinder.  It was a labor of love, no doubt.  And it was amazing.

Fletcher will never forget this one, that is certain.  Thank you, Mom and Uncle Fred!!

    1. You and Fletcher both. He ate all that track from out under the train first.

  6. I'd like to book them for my future children's birthday parties. I don't think my two levels of Wilton classes are going to cut it after seeing this cake! ;) My mom always made us whatever special cake we wanted on our birthday and I still think about them every year. I'm so glad your children will have the same memories!

  7. This cake was so impressive, and I so love the cereal treats and kit kats...I was wondering if those were Whoppers in the train car and you answered my question! What a great piece of work. For a wonderful and certainly memorable 5th birthday. Rowan, the look of cheerful little sister sidekick is all yours baby girl! Your face is the best! Great job tackling this, Gigi and Uncle Fred! You guys are the new Cake Bosses! xoxo
