the zoo! lessons on bacteria and poo.

Yesterday we went to the zoo.  The littles LOVE the zoo.  Not for the actual animals, but for the statues of animals.
Why don't I just take you to a freaking STATUE park, children??  They even enjoyed climbing the rocks better than looking at the animals.
Not to mention the playground, the mini-train ride, and the food.  Weird that my kids would enjoy food more than the main attractions.  But I do think it's all about hands on, because they did LOVE the area where you feed the birds.  I did not want to go into the area where you feed the birds.  Birds are dirty, notorious for disease, and hello, they DON'T HAVE ANY SPHINCTERS.  But Brian, as usual, talked me into being brave.  And to forget about hygiene as he is wont to do.
He was right.  Sometimes, just SOMETIMES, you have to forget about hygiene to have fun.  It's a fact.  And the littles really enjoyed being up close and personal with the pretty lorikeets.
And ok, ok.  This mama enjoyed herself, too.
Plus it didn't hurt that a lorikeet landed on my shoulder and then I TURNED INTO A DISNEY PRINCESS.  I almost started singing.  Almost.  And then one took a shit THISCLOSE to me, and I was outta there.

I don't have a picture of the elephants because just as we got there, one decided to take a MASSIVE dump.  And we could not look away.  It was AMAZING.  In a completely and utterly disgusting sort of way.  And I didn't even think to raise my camera as we gazed on in horror and admiration.

The penguins were a hit with Brian.  I think they're his favorite.
They are pretty cute.  But when Brian had the camera?  He took a gabillion pictures of this squirrel eating french fries.  Because they are super exotic, of course.
And when the littles start looking like this
And this
you know you have a very finite amount of time to get them home and in bed for naps before MELT DOWNS COMMENCE.

We almost made it in time.

  1. As always, great photos, and your hair is AMAZING! It must be super-long to braid and wrap so many times.

And I am with you on the birds and poops and hygiene. Yuck. But when big animals take poops (safely away from me, of course), I can't help but stare either. Human nature! ;)

    1. Thanks, Jenn! By the way, I keep trying to comment on your blog and it won't let me :( Probably something I'm doing wrong. My hair isn't THAT long, it's just in 5 separate braids and then I pin them headband like over the top. Did that make any sense?
