little collections

I tried to resist.  But you see, it's in my blood.  Collections.  My grandfather had a collection of well over a hundred paperweights.  My grandmother has a million incarnations of birds on plates, in porcelain, and stuffed.  My father collected dragons for a while, then frogs.  And then there is my mother.  She has collections of unicorns, roses, angels, hummingbirds... to name a few.  She loves collections.  If you don't have one, she will find your weakness and start one for you.  It will become her mission to learn what you find cute, lovely, dear, and then it's over.

When I was around 10 she started up a horse figurine collection for me.  Because, well, I was 10, and 10 year old girls love horses.  But somewhere in my teenage years I resisted, and tried refusing any collections.  Her power proved too strong, and Winnie the Pooh became the collection I could not refuse.  But after that, nothing.  I thought I had escaped.  I thought I was FREE!!  I went to college with no collections.  Anything that even resembled a collection had to be purged, because I was sure it would get out of control immediately.  And so it's been for over a decade now.  Except.  I took a good look around my house the other day.  And sure enough, I have collections.  I have collections EVERYWHERE.
Sure, they are little collections, but they are collections.  So here I am.  A collector.  I come by it honestly.

  11. I think little collections are the way to go! They don't get too out of hand, but you can enjoy finding and adding to things you love!

  12. Can you have a collection of things that don't have anything more in common than the fact that I like them? If so, that is what I collect.

  13. Love your collections! I'm in the same camp as you- I like collections as long as they don't get too crazy and need their own room. My husband's family likes to pick a theme for you so that every gift falls into that theme... for some reason mine is cats (I guess because I had a cat). There are only so many cat related items that I can find a home for before I feel like a loony toon :)Small collections though are very satisfying.

  18. I'm sure some of your mom's collections are short just a couple of items here or there by me being over at the house...breaking things. LOL. Long live the Queen of nick-nacks. And good for you that you have some beautiful collections yourself! You'll always have a story to tell with each one.

  20. That is so funny!!! And...I'll bet my sister has no idea what I have collected over the years. Which is fine by me. :) I only have a couple of things that I collect for myself, and only on occasion, and recently your Grandmama has built a doggie collection for me.

(had to edit...silly battery had gone out on my wireless keyboard and somehow lost some of the post)
