the details

Friends.  I have been busy.  We all have, right?  This time of year is a bit of a rush, but the week before Christmas, I feel a crush of busy.  It's not the best feeling.  I want to sit back and enjoy the season.  But there is so. much. to. be. done.  I finished my shopping yesterday.  I actually had everyone finished EXCEPT Brian.  I finally got around to getting his presents.  Thank goodness for Amazon.  Amen.  I baked 4 batches of cookies with my mom today.  I cleaned and tidied like a maniac yesterday.  I made handmade presents for Fletcher and Rowan's teachers (along with gift cards, don't worry!).  I got all the cards mailed.  I still have Christmas meal shopping to do.  I haven't wrapped one present.  My hair is in desperate need of, ahem, a refresh.  And this space is very very close to just going radio silent until after the holidays.  But here I am, at midnight, catching up here, too.

I thought I'd share just a few of the Christmas details around my house right now.  I'll share more later (maybe).  But for now, you can see that Christmas is pretty much in every nook and cranny here.
I hope you are all much more relaxed than I am right now.  I think I'll go take a long bath and head to bed.  The wrapping can wait until tomorrow.

  1. I am exactly like you, Ruthie. I'm going through lists in my head all the time, and worrying about the things I haven't done. (BTW, you have done much more than me!) I love all your decorative touches, especially the guy with the kilt! Love him!

  2. Not to brag, but kind of to brag, I am done. The only thing I have left to do is finish laundry, pack, clean the house, catch the UPS man during his delivery today, mail a package, return a gift the lil' guy got, make some sugar free fudge, deliver a coat to someone who left it here, cook dinner, "refresh"
my hair, get the dog sitters gift wrapped and catch up on dvr so we have space for the next few days. So yeah, totally done.

  3. Oh and I thought you should know that I google your blog everyday. For the past year, the first suggestion that comes up as I type "my trash..." is "my trash won't empty". But yesterday "my trash and treasure" came up first! You have moved into the number one google spot! Congratulations!!!!!

  4. What fun that your mom is there with y'all! I love all your little decorations. That bagpiper is awesome! I'm so sad that's I've been so dang sick this week - nothing is getting done. :( My cards are almost finished but I'm going to have to let the cookies and cinnamon rolls wait until next year. Maybe I'll have a re-do for New Years. Good luck getting it all done! You're so, so close!

  6. Wow, good job on the google report, Kelly! And that's awesome for you, Ruthie! I really totally love all the pictures of the house. I love the bagpipe Santa, and the teacher in me loves how he's standing next to the globe. It looks like you have a "Santa's around the world" exhibit. By the way, that reminds me...have either of your littles seen the Caillou Christmas movie? I personally can't stand that little Caillou, and I am not really sure why. Ok, maybe it's his annoying voice. But I was watching it the other day, thinking...how could I really despise this little kid. He's so sweet. Ok, I am officially calling myself a loser now that I know too much about these kid shows. P.S. How awesome is it that Seseme Street portrays Grover as a barista working in a coffee shop?? But anyway, I got WAAAAY off topic here. It is so wonderful to see how everything looks in your house because now I can picture you guys celebrating the holidays. So glad you get to spend Christmas with your parents. Have fun baking, eating, cooking, and drinking! Wish you all well! (sorry, this comment left "comment status" and turned into a mini-thesis.) Love you!! xoxo

  8. Can we have Kelly and Karen be permanent guest commentators? Because I love reading their comments *almost* as much as I love reading your blog. Such a happy following you have. :) Just a bright little corner of the world around here.
